Trail Highlights
The trailhead for this scenic hike begins at the picturesque shore of Lower Kananaskis Lake, venturing into the forest to continue meandering along the shoreline. Mount Indefatigable and Mount Invincible command attention along the trail’s path, their imposing presences contrasting against the blue canvas of the sky and lake.
This alpine spot is also a favourite for outdoor activities, including kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. During the winter months, the trail’s flat, consistent paths become an ideal snowshoeing spot, allowing you to explore the snowy underbrush of Kananskis’ frosted forests. Winter and summer equipment rentals are available from Kananaskis Outfitters in Kananaskis Village.
As you embark into the forested portion of this short hike, you will get a chance to explore the area’s mud flats in between viewpoints and benched breakpoints. When discussing epic and easy views in Kananaskis, this is the pinnacle. Interpretive signage along the way invites you to learn more about your surroundings, highlighting the history and natural significance of Alberta’s backcountry.
Like its elevated counterpart, the Lower Kananaskis Lakes Interpretive Trail is close to several Kananaskis campsites and accommodation options, including the Kananaskis Interlakes Campground.
