Kananaskis Conservation Pass
The Kananaskis Conservation Pass, or K-Pass, became mandatory in June 2021 for all vehicles parked in Kananaskis Country, Bow Valley Provincial Park and public land sites. Implemented by the Government of Alberta, fees are set aside to support local conservation and safety efforts, while improving services and facilities.
Any vehicle parking in Kananaskis requires a pass. This includes Kananaskis Village, and when accessing Kananaskis Nordic Spa or any of the hotels and accommodations. For more specific information, utilize the boundary map or interactive map. Passes may be purchased in person at Kananaskis Visitor Information Centres (Barrier, Elbow, Peter Lougheed and William Watson Lodge) and the Canmore Nordic Centre Day Lodge or online. Please keep in mind that certain stretches of Kananaskis have spotty cellular service if you are planning on buying your pass online once you reach your destination.

FAQ
What are the fees used for?
The funds from each K-Pass are used for three main areas:
- Conservation– protecting habitats and reducing wildlife conflicts
- Public safety– search and rescue, enforcement actions
- Services and facilities– trail maintenance, day use areas, recreation facilities, visitor and information centres
How are the passes enforced?
License plates of vehicles in the area will be scanned. Owners of non-compliant vehicles may be warned or receive a fine in the mail.
Do I have to purchase a K-Pass in advance?
Visitors may purchase the pass until 11:59pm the day they are visiting, even if their license plate has already been scanned. Save pass receipts to a mobile device or print them in case proof of purchase is required.
How much is the fine for non-compliance?
$150 for personal vehicles, $350 for commercial vehicles.
