Join us for one of Alberta’s most scenic and intimate trail-adjacent running events, set in the heart of Kananaskis Country. With limited capacity and a strong focus on sustainability, the Explore Kananaskis Half Marathon & 10K delivers a premium race experience surrounded by towering peaks, forested pathways, and fresh mountain air.
When & Where Does the Race Take Place?
The Explore Kananaskis Half Marathon & 10K takes place over two days at the stunning Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge:
- Half Marathon: Saturday, July 25 at 9:00 AM
- 10K Race: Sunday, July 26 at 9:00 AM
Both races start and finish at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, making it easy to stay, race, and relax all in one location.
Race Package Pickup
Participants must present government-issued photo ID to collect race kits.
Pickup Times:
- Thursday, July 23 (Calgary – Location TBA): 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Friday, July 24 (Race Venue): 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Last-Minute Pickup:
- Saturday (Half Marathon only): 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM
- Sunday (10K): 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM

A portion of every registration supports Friends of Kananaskis Country, helping protect local trails and ecosystems.
Course Details & Cut-Off Times
Run on paved mountain pathways including Centennial Drive, Evan Thomas Path, Bill Milne Path, and Village Rim.
- Half Marathon Cut-Off: 4 hours (1:00 PM)
- 10K Cut-Off: 2 hours (11:00 AM)
Walkers welcome
No strollers or dogs
No headphones (wildlife safety)
Aid Stations & Zero-Trace Racing
Aid stations offer water and hydration fuel—but this is a cupless race.
You must bring your own:
- Collapsible cup or hydration vessel
This supports our Zero-Trace Protocol, minimizing environmental impact and protecting the natural landscape.
Safety & Wildlife Awareness
Running in Kananaskis means sharing space with wildlife.
- Participants are strongly encouraged to carry bear spray
- Wildlife briefings provided at race start
- Alberta Parks monitors conditions throughout the event
- Routes or timing may change for safety

- Half Marathon: 16+ years old
- 10K: 14+ years old
- Under 18 requires a signed guardian waiver
Registration Details
- Limited to 500 runners for a premium, low-impact experience
- Registration closes July 15 or when sold out
Transfers, Refunds & Policies
- No refunds or deferrals
- Bib transfers allowed until July 15 via Movemint
- Event may be modified due to weather or wildlife
Getting There & Parking
Parking is available in Kananaskis Village and at the Lodge, with carpooling strongly encouraged. Detailed instructions will be shared with registered runners.
